About New Wave Gippsland

New Wave members with MP Harriet Shing at Voice at the Table training

New Wave Gippsland is a self advocacy group. It is run by and for people with an intellectual disability or an acquired brain injury.

Members of New Wave work together to make sure they have the same rights, choices and opportunities as anyone else in the community.

Quote –

‘Before self advocacy I didn’t know my rights, I didn’t even know that I had rights.’

At New Wave we believe in empowerment, equality and we love having FUN.

Quote –

‘Once I was frightened—Now I am confident. Once I would always say “Yes” – now I can speak my mind and say “No”.’

New Wave welcomes people from all backgrounds and beliefs and we respect people’s choices.

Confidentiality is very important to New Wave members.

At New Wave we provide individual support and group support to our peers with disability.
